I argue in [wvns] The Epoch Battle of Our Time that treating health care as a utility to be delivered by highly regulated investor-owned regional monopolies might work better in the USA than the proposals currently under discussion.
AT&T delivered quality telephone service under such a model for most of the 20th century. Such an approach would probably work even better for health care.
